She battled with drug addiction. “My mother was from Summerhill — she was on heroin, and she died from it,” the actor mentioned in an interview. 

Following this difficult period, Keoghan and his brother Eric spent seven years in foster care, moving through 13 different foster homes. Eventually, they found stability under the care of their grandmother, aunt, and older sister, Gemma.

“Gemma had to go into the room with my nanny, and Lorraine, Eric, and I had the other room. She was only young when we moved in, she gave up everything. I love them for that,” he concluded his statement.

During his childhood, Keoghan participated in school plays at O’Connell School on North Richmond Street in Dublin, but he was banned for being disruptive.
