Kim Mulkey, full name Kimberly Duane Mulkey, is a women’s college basketball coach currently the head coach of the LSU Tigers women’s basketball team. She is renowned in the basketball world for her exceptional leadership and coaching skills. 

She recently made headlines for earning her fourth national title as a head coach (following three she won at Baylor). Notably, this win was achieved in her second season at LSU, despite having nine new players on the roster. But this achievement was briefly overshadowed by rumors of her engagement.

Who is Kim Mulkey’s ex-husband?

Mulkey’s former husband’s name is Randy Roberton. The pair got married in 1987 after meeting at Louisiana Tech, where Robertson served as the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs during the 1974 and 1975 seasons.

Together, they have two children—Kramer Robertson and Makenzie Roberton. Kramer is a professional baseball player and former collegiate All-American at Louisiana State University. Makenzie also played basketball and softball for Baylor and is presently an assistant coach on her mother’s staff. 

While married to Robertson, Mulkey went by the name Kim Mulkey-Robertson. However, they parted ways and got divorced in 2006.

Kim Mulkey’s career as a player

Mulkey was born in Tickfaw, Louisiana, on May 17, 1962. She grew up in a small town where she developed a love for basketball. Her father, Larry Mulkey, was her high school coach, and he helped her hone her skills and develop her passion for the game.

Her playing career began at Hammond High School, where she was a standout player. She then went on to play college basketball at Louisiana Tech University, where she played point guard for the Lady Techsters from 1980 to 1984. 

During her time at Louisiana Tech, Mulkey was part of three national championship teams and won a gold medal as a United States women’s basketball team member at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Kim Mulkey’s journey as a coach

After her playing career ended, Mulkey took up coaching and became an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech in 1985. She then served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M and the University of Tulsa before landing her first head coaching job at Baylor University in 2000.

She quickly made her mark as a head coach, leading the Baylor Lady Bears to their first-ever national championship in 2005. She then guided them to a second national title in 2012 and a third in 2019, becoming one of the few coaches in NCAA history to win three national championships.

Under her leadership, Baylor became one of the country’s top women’s basketball programs, consistently ranked in the top 25 and competing for national titles.

Mulkey was announced as the head coach of LSU on April 25, 2021, after serving as the head coach at Baylor for 21 seasons. On April 2, 2023, she achieved her first NCAA National Championship victory as the coach of LSU.

Her success as a coach is largely due to her ability to develop players and build strong team chemistry. She is known for her strict, no-nonsense approach to coaching, and her players respect her for her honesty and integrity. 

In addition to her success on the court, she has also been recognized for her contributions to women’s basketball. She was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020 and has won numerous Coach of the Year awards.

According to him, he used to keep the money in the bank for his kids however, his wife used all the money separated for the kids for herself. He also stated that he did not earn much and was living off savings from his past career, but his wife filed a lawsuit asking for child support, legal bills, and expenses cost to be borne by him.

He provided further evidence that he already provided her with over $50,000 and she also took over $20,000 from the expenses he deposited for his children. Furthermore, he claimed his ex-wife makes more than him as she was a registered nurse and her monthly salary was over $60,000.
